Fraunhofer IPMS is advancing the development of high-performance, optical underwater communication systems designed for robust, real-time data exchange in challenging marine environments. 

To meet increasing security demands, the system supports encrypted communication (e.g., MACSec) and is compatible with quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols, enabling secure underwater data transfer for industrial, scientific, and defense-related use cases. A wide field-of-view enhances link stability, even in dynamic or misaligned conditions.

Within a Fraunhofer founded project, we are developing, we are developing a compact, low complex Li-Fi transceivers for underwater communication on the basis of our Arthus technology.
