Virtual industrial fair "INDUSTRIAL production + handling"

Fraunhofer IPMS presents communication solutions for modern production

In modern industrial plants, machines, logistics and products talk directly to each other and require technology solutions for error-free and fast data transmission. The Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems presents innovative solutions for industrial communication in the technology fields of Li-Fi, RFID sensors and Communication IP-Cores at the virtual industrial fair "INDUSTRIAL production + handling" from June 17th to July 3rd, 2020.

Wireless data transmission using Li-Fi enables secure and fast real-time data transmission via light. This ensures efficient and interference-free communication between machines in modern industrial plants. Until now, real-time data transmission via cable has been carried out using special field bus systems. Cables are not suitable for mobile applications in industrial robots and automation technology.

RFID sensors are able to monitor industrial plants wirelessly. The reader supplies the sensor with energy in order to perform the measurement and then transmit the measured values. In this way, temperature, air pressure, humidity and other parameters can be monitored wirelessly and maintenance-free. The Fraunhofer IPMS offers services for the system development of battery-free RFID sensor systems.

IP-based design is an approach that helps developers of ASICs and FPGAs to save time and work by using specified and tested IP cores. The Fraunhofer IPMS develops IP cores for industrial communication, which enable time sensitive data transmission (TSN) from devices in Ethernet networks. The IP core product family of the Fraunhofer IPMS also includes IP cores for CAN2.0, CAN-FD and in the future also CAN-XL and LIN bus systems. Selected IP cores are certified ASIL-B-Ready or ASIL-D-Ready.

The service portfolio of the Fraunhofer IPMS ranges from conception and product development to pilot series production - from components to complete system solutions. At the industrial fair "INDUSTRIAL production + handling" visitors can inform themselves about the latest developments of the Fraunhofer IPMS and get into conversation with the experts.
