SUPREME - Pilot Line for Superconducting Quantum Chips
SUPREME will establish Europe’s first superconducting stability pilot line, bringing quantum fabrication to an unprecedented level of stability, repeatability, and yield. By combining advanced fabrication techniques with systematic quality assurance, SUPREME will enable reliable, high-performance superconducting quantum chips for applications in quantum computing, communication, and sensing.
The pilot line will be accessible to start-ups, SMEs, large industries, RTOs, and academia, offering:
- Process Design Kits (PDKs) for developed processes
- Regular Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) runs
- Customized fabrication services tailored to user needs
- Centralized support via the SUPREME Service Office (SSO) as the single entry point for all users
This customer-focused approach lowers entry barriers and accelerates innovation, enabling European companies to design, develop, and fabricate superconducting devices while keeping IP creation within Europe.
Aligned with the EU Chips Act, SUPREME strengthens European sovereignty and competitiveness by bridging the gap between research and commercialization. It lays the foundation for wide industrialization of superconducting quantum technologies through technology transfer to foundries, driving long-term economic growth and ensuring Europe’s leadership in the global quantum landscape.
Market Context and Strategic Importance
The quantum technology market is set to grow rapidly. Europe must secure its own technology, IP, and supply chains to maintain sovereignty in this strategic field. Superconducting quantum technologies, a mature and enabling platform, are critical for quantum computing, communication, and sensing. SUPREME addresses Europe’s need by providing stable, high-yield fabrication processes, enabling the development of complex superconducting systems and supporting the next generation of quantum processors, amplifiers, superconducting logic, sensors, and hybrid photonic components.
Aligned with the EU Chips Act, SUPREME strengthens European sovereignty and competitiveness, bridges the gap between research and commercialization, and lays the foundation for wide-scale industrialization.
