Li-Fi technology uses light for the wireless transmission of data. The functional principle can be simply explained.
What is Li-Fi?
Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) technology wirelessly transmits data by means of light. The principle is simple. A transmitter modulator switches a light-emitting diode (LED) on and off so quickly, that it is undetectable by the human eye. A photodiode on the receiver picks up the light and converts it into electrical impulses. Direct visual contact between sender and receiver is necessary.
When compared to other wireless communication standards, Li-Fi offers these significant advantages:

Fraunhofer IPMS has been developing optical communication solutions with very high transmission rates for several years. The resulting Li-Fi HotSpot and Li-Fi GigaDock® technologies are also capable of replacing connectors, cables, sliding contacts and Wi-Fi networks.
