What are RFID sensor systems?
The hardware of an wireless sensor network basing on RFID consists of a transponder (tag) and a reading device (reader). Combining RFID transponder circuits with integrated or external sensors, RFID sensors wirelessly identify and read sensor values as well as allow for the integration of actuators. For passive, battery-free RFID sensors, the energy required for measurement and transmission is taken from the electromagnetic field of the reader. A complete RFID system includes the middleware which transfers communication from the transponder to higher-level systems.

How to integrate RFID sensors in existing systems?
