Launch of Gateone Innovation Action, boosting smart system innovation for SMEs

Lyon, France - /

Gateone is a European project to equip SMEs with smart technologies and solutions to boost their innovation cycle. The official launch took place in Grenoble on January 23rd, 2015.

Gateone has a selection of 200 innovative product concepts which they are offering to SMEs. These innovations address business opportunities in the areas of energy management, connected devices, smart cities, mobility, assisted living, security and safety. Demonstrators of the product concepts will be made available to SMEs for testing and validation, helping them to bring their product to market in an easier and faster way. Gateone is designed to act quickly and deliver concrete answers to SMEs’ business challenges.

»We have built a comprehensive portfolio of technologies which can provide real differentiators for SMEs and stimulate their business« says Pierre Damien Berger from CEA.

Smart systems, or the so called 'More than Moore' applications, are expanding much faster than the semiconductor industry. Their compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is already higher than 15%, with a total market in 2015 already expected to reach US$60 billion (Source: Yole Développement).

As a service innovation support for SMEs, Gateone combines leading research and technology organisations including: CEA-LETI (F), CSEM (CH), Fraunhofer IPMS (D), VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd (Fi), IK4-Ikerlan (Es), Tyndall National Institute (IRL), LAAS CNRS (F) and Teesside University (UK) and recognised experts in innovation, marketing and financing through Yole Développement.

Some discussions with SMEs have already started. Gateone will enable an evaluation of the technology capability and this hands-on experience will help the SME to build its roadmap towards the final product. »This innovation inception phase represents the first gate in a New Product Introduction (NPI) process. We are proud to lead this initiative which has the potential to make a difference in the innovation cycle for SMEs. Our vision is that smart systems are a huge opportunity for SMEs and we are committed to delivering the state of the art in this field« says Régis Hamelin from Yole Développement, Scientific Coordinator of Gateone.

Gateone gives easy access to recognised expertise in all aspects of innovation – technologies, business opportunity validation, innovation process. »Initiatives like Gateone are sponsored by the European Commission to provide relevant support to European SMEs. Gateone is considered an attractive approach to meet with SMEs requirements for agile and reactive processes. We are strongly encouraging European SMEs to take advantage of this new initiative which can make a big difference in Europe«, said Javier Bonal from the European Commission.

Access to the portfolio of innovative product concepts and demonstrators is free of charge. SMEs can contact Gateone’s scientific coordinator to initiate the service. Contact: Régis Hamelin from Yole Développement, Scientific Coordinator of Gateone (hamelin@yole.fr).
