RFID sensor systems
RFID sensors are the combination of an RFID transponder circuit and integrated or external sensors. The entire hardware of an RFID sensor system consists of a transponder, also called a "tag", and a reader, also called a reader. In addition to identification, this combination also enables the wireless reading of sensor values and the integration of actuators. For passive, battery-free RFID sensors, the energy required for measurement and transmission is obtained from the electromagnetic field of the reader. The middleware is the last element of a complete RFID system. It handles the communication from the transponder to higher-level systems.
Advantages of passive RFID sensor systems compared to conventional and wired solutions:
- Wireless
- Battery-free
- Maintenance-free
- Sensors for harsh environmental conditions
