Only very few companies can go all the way from concept design to marketable batch products all by themselves. Worldwide, the Fraunhofer IPMS belongs to the few selected institutions that are able to cover the whole value chain in the field of electro-opto-mechanical microsystems (MOEMS) from technology and product development to the fabrication of complete microsystems. This holds especially true for high-supervision engineering projects, in particular, microsystems based on CMOS, i. e. compatible, high-speed, low-power and space-saving electronics.

The Fraunhofer IPMS includes consultancy and specification of circuit concepts, and the design of devices and complete systems including full electronic, mechanical and optical characterization of MOEMS devices. In September 2007, a new clean room was opened and the go-ahead given for COMEDD, »Center for Organic Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden«. Some 900 m² are available for the purpose of development and pilot fabrication of organic semiconductors. Another 1500 m² are used in the new MEMS clean room for the development and pilot fabrication of microsystems. Complete electrical and non-electrical tests as well as reliability examinations and the characterization of microchips are also included in these processes. Thus, the Fraunhofer IPMS guarantees its clients a continuous solution chain from concept design up to the field-tested solution.
