COMEDD – Center for Organic Materials and Electronic Devices Dresden – stands for combined know-how and infrastructure under the aegis of the Fraunhofer IPMS. This covers research and development as well as pilot production of devices and fabrication technologies based on semiconducting organic materials, so-called small molecules. COMEDD consolidates the lead of the Organic Electronics Saxony in terms of research and development of organic semiconductors by means of industrial, production-related utilization. To this end, COMEDD provides full service – from system design and technological development to pilot production of small batches including substrate structuring, deposition technology, encapsulation and system integration.

COMEDD started operations at the Fraunhofer IPMS on September 10, 2007, assigning unique equipment for the fabrication of OLED lighting modules and organic solar cells to Sunic System Ltd., South Korea, and AIXTRON AG. The Saxon Land government, the Federal Government and the European Union will invest 25 million Euro in four lines of prototypes and pilot production for the center to gain a leading position in Europe and to forward the market leadership of OLED-lighting, organic solar cells and OLED-on-CMOS devices.
