Numerous industrial applications, in medicine for example, have special requirements for electronic image acquisition that conventional cameras are not able to fulfill. This pertains for one to the size of the system, e.g. for use in endoscopy, and also to the inclusion of additional data, such as depth-resolved information.
Systems developed at Fraunhofer IPMS specially use micro scanning mirrors developed and manufactured in-house for the fulfillment of these needs. Typical systems include ultra-compact endoscope heads for endomicroscopy, depth-resolved laser-scanning microscopes, retina scanning for mobile authentication, 3D fluorescence microscopy for dermatological science and systems for the testing and quality evaluation of euro banknotes.
