The Fraunhofer IPMS develops complete customer oriented photonic system solutions. These include the integration of all system components (MEMS, MOEMS, electronics, optics and software) based on the micromechanical mirrors and mirror arrays developed at the Fraunhofer IPMS. Among the multitude of possible applications, the domains of spectral optical signal acquisition and processing as well as the realization of ultra-compact systems for image display and acquisition deserve special mention.

Furthermore the Fraunhofer IPMS develops organic microsystems, i.e. devices and systems based on organic semiconductors. The main focus lies on the integration of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) into active CMOS ICs, i.e. fast, space-saving, low-power electronics. Possible applications range from color and flow sensors to so-called bidirectional micro displays for augmented reality applications.
